Question:

Crafty people, please help? Frosted Glass Candle Holders?

by  |  earlier

I want to make frosted glass candle holders, so when there are candles in them, they give off a glow.

But I have been looking EVERYWHERE for them, and I haven't found any (that come in more than just one size). So does anybody know how to transform regular glass candle holders to this frosted glass look?

I would really appreciate your help. =]

  1. As others have already stated, you can purchase a 'spray on' glass frosting, from several different suppliers.

You can even make a stencil, if you want to leave a 'clear' portion.  (My brother had some at his wedding, with a 'clear' heart, for example.... and they were all DIY)

Etching with an acid used to be the way all glass was 'frosted', or etched.  Acid needs to be handled by someone experienced with it tho.. I wouldnt recommend it to someone who's never used it before... too many things could go wrong.

I will add... if you're making candle holders, spray the frosting on the outside, hehehe.

  2. Check this site out-it rocks. Crafster.org-they have some really cute ideas. Hope this helps.

  3. Most any Craft Store will carry frosting materials. Some are sprayed on and some actually etch the glass.

  4. One other method would be sandblasting. You would need to take the pieces you chose to a local sandblasting outfit if you have access to one.

  5. i work at michaels arts & crafts

we have glass froster that comes in a spray can

at your local michaels, you can find it in the isle with glass paint and usually mosaic supplies

ask someone at the store and they should know what you're talking about
