http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Craig-Bellamy-c9471 has gone on to suggest that finishing in the top four is far more important than winning the Carling Cup this season.
Despite Liverpool not having won any trophies for the last six years, many of the players on the team believe that its far more important for the team to make it into the fourth spot in the league table, as opposed to wining the Carling Cup.
Bellamy is one of the Liverpool players who feels this way and the attacker is quoted to have said:
"Would we choose Champions League over Carling Cup? I think we would. Would Cardiff choose entering the Premier League over the Carling Cup? I think they would as well”
"They have promotion to go for, we have Champions League to go for. We're still in the FA Cup. Both teams have got so much to play for this season.”
Bellamy then went on to admit that it was a massive boost to any team, if they ended up winning cup competitions, but it was still a priority to occupy a Champions League spot at the end of the day.
"Cup competitions are a big bonus really but we are looking at Champions League and maybe a win might help us and push us towards what we aim to achieve."
Liverpool are going to be playing their Carling Cup final on the 26th of February and the way they have been playing in recent weeks, they will be going into the game as the favourites to come out on top.
However, despite Bellamy wanting to secure the last Champions League spot, the forward needs to understand that winning the Carling Cup, will only aid Liverpool’s hopes of making it back into the top four.
Should the Reds win the Carling Cup, they would be given an extra boost for the remainder of the season and this boost could help them produce the results that they need, in order to end the season on a high.
Nonetheless, it is now going to be a wait till the end of the season to see whether the Reds manage to make it back into the top four or not.
