Craig Bellamy may miss Welsh games
Wales Captain Craig Bellamy may miss the European Championship Qualifiers according to the Cardiff City manager David Jones.
The forward may not be fit to take up his position in the Welsh squad that will face Bulgaria and Switzerland in October.
The striker has been out for three weeks due to the re occurrence of an old knee injury and the Cardiff manager does not want to rush his player back into football.
Jones said, “All the hard work we've put in, it would not be the best to then go and play two [Wales] games. If we can get him up and running great but it might have to wait until after the international week”
He added, "We've got him so far down the line now and he's looking really good, then it's pointless forcing the issue just to play the games and then be out another four or five games. His career is [bigger than two Wales internationals], that's the most
important thing for him is being able to play every week and to try and force him to play a couple of games, then it would be the wrong decision.
Wales lost their first qualifying game to Montenegro 1-0, a result which saw manager John Toshack resign.
Brian Flynn will take over as caretaker manager and the former under-21 manager will be without the services of Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey. The loss of his captain would be a further blow.
Cardiff will hope that the Welsh medical team and the player will take into account the problems which may arise if Wales decide to rush the player back for the upcoming internationals.
Jones said, "But we're still a long way off that decision at this moment but I would think it would be a doubt if I'm being honest. I'm sure Craig will leave it as long as he can [before making a decision]."
