Liverpool winger Craig Bellamy has admitted that he was desperate to join the Merseyside club, while revealing that he turned down an offer from Tottenham Hotspur as he only wanted to play for the Anfield side.
Bellamy re-joined Liverpool on a free transfer on the deadline day of the recently concluded summer transfer window. The 32-year-old, who spent his whole last season on loan at Cardiff City, was controversially transferred to West Ham United in 2007 after
his relationship with then Reds manager, Rafael Benitez, broke down.
The Welsh winger then went on to join Manchester City, however, the attacker failed to make a name of himself at the Manchester club. After hugely impressing on loan at Cardiff City last season, Bellamy was allowed by Manchester City to leave the club on
a free transfer.
The 32-year-old revealed that had Liverpool not shown any interest in him, he would have joined the Championship Cardiff City on a permanent transfer rather than joining any other Premier League side.
Bellamy revealed while giving an interview on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809’s official television channel:
"There was interest from one or two other clubs, but I was trying to be straightforward with Cardiff. Come the last day, I'd resolved an issue with Man City which allowed me to go on a free.”
The Welsh winger hailed Tottenham Hotspur’s progress in the Barclays Premier League in the recent years. Bellamy believes that the Spurs' style of play would have suited his game, however, he has insisted that the opportunity to play for Liverpool was too
good to be turned down.
"I like Tottenham, I like the team a lot. I feel the way they play and pass the ball would suit me a treat - but this was a chance to go to Liverpool. I don't believe you should return, go back to your old clubs, but this is Liverpool and I could never walk
away from this opportunity," the 32-year-old concluded.
Craig Bellamy is yet to cement his place in Kenny Dalglish’s starting eleven but the Welsh winger has already made eight appearances for the Reds in all competitions.
