Liverpool’s Welsh ace bags his second award in as many months after being chosen as the club’s best player for the month of January.
Liverpool have been on a good run in recent weeks, knocking out the likes of Manchester City from the Carling Cup, before dumping bitter rivals, Manchester United out of the FA Cup less than a week later.
However, no one would have thought that possible had they seen the Merseyside club’s performance against the Bolton Wanderers at the Reebok Stadium. The Reds were flat on the night as they were on the receiving end of a cruel wake up call, courtesy of the
Wanderers.
There was one star performer that night and no prizes for guessing who that was, as Bellamy put in a lively performance and bagged the only goal for his side in the game.
He continued his fine goal scoring form against his former club, Manchester City, by scoring the equalizer to send the Citizens out of the semi-finals of the tournament and booking http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 a place in Wembley.
One could call it poetry if one had that sense, as Bellamy came to Liverpool on a free transfer from, you guessed it, Manchester City. Add to it the fact that this is the Welsh striker’s second stint at the Merseyside club, things get even better.
It is only when you add in the fact that Liverpool play Cardiff in the final that one understands just what an important month it was for the player, as Bellamy supported the club in his youth.
This is the second month in a row that Bellamy has received the Standard Chartered ‘Player of the Month’ award and he accepted it with the usual formality of praising the team.
“For me it’s just about to help the team win games – that’s important. I’ve never really been the one to try to get personal satisfaction from goals.”
He continued, “If they come then great but winning games is more important for me.”
Though he did admit he was going to savour every second, “To win this award two months on the run means something to me. Do I think it’ll be a third? No, so I’m going to milk this one this month!”
