Craig Benson wins Men’s 200m breast-stroke crown: Day two – 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games
Day two of the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games saw several impressive swims in Isle of Man, on Saturday, September 10. England's Elena Sheridan secured gold medal in the Women’s 200m butterfly race, while Scotland's Craig Benson earned the gold medal in Men’s
200m breast-stroke swim. McMahon snared the golden crown in the Women’s 50m breast-stroke race, whereas, Australia's Chris Raven took home the Men’s 100m butterfly event.
Elena Sheridan of England hit the finishing wall in 2 minutes and 09.85 seconds to win the Women’s 200m butterfly crown. In the corresponding race, Australia's Vanessa Puhlmann earned silver medal on the podium by posting a winning time of 2 minutes and
11.88 seconds and England's Rachael Kelly captured the bronze medal after ending her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 14.12 seconds.
In the Men’s 200m breast-stroke final heat, Scotland's Craig Benson took home the gold medal on the podium with a triumphant time of 2 minutes and 11.15 seconds. Australia's Tommy Sucipto grabbed silver medal in the respective meet with a time of 2 minutes
and 14.27 seconds and South Africa's Kurt Benjamin picked bronze medal after touching the finishing wall in a time of 2 minutes and 20.88 seconds.
Then, McMahon took home the Women’s 50m breast-stroke crown on the podium by posting a matchless time of 31.47 seconds. Meanwhile, Wales' Sara Lougher settled for silver medal with a winning mark of 32.12 seconds and South Africa's Kelly Gunnell snared bronze
title in a time of 32.20 seconds.
Last, but not the least, Australia's Chris Raven snagged the Men’s 100m butterfly crown in a time of 53.09 seconds. South Africa's Hendrick Alberts grabbed silver medal on the podium by posting a winning time of 53.32 seconds and New Zealand's Alexander
Hancock earned bronze medal of the respective platform by submitting a matchless mark of 53.54 seconds.
All athletes took a huge round of applause from spectators for their scintillating swims and the winners were honoured with medals and accolades after the end of the day’s session.
