Craig Gardner looking forward to playing Carling Cup final
Birmingham City midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Craig-Gardner-c9475, who scored the winner against West Ham United in the Carling Cup semi-final, believes that his dream has come true by playing at the Wembley Stadium.
Gardner has been a lifelong supporter of the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 national side and it was his emphatic performance against West Ham that led City to win the semi-final 4-3 on aggregate. It is for the first time in nearly 55 years that Birmingham play in a Cup final
and Gardner labelled it to be the best day of his career.
Birmingham are ready to step out of the shadow of their much successful neighbours Aston Villa and the last time they played in a cup final was in 1956, where they were defeated by Manchester City. 55 years later, Gardner believes it is time for them to
lift the silverware and the hopes of everyone at the club.
“To get your team to Wembley, the one you've been supporting them since you were a boy, and scoring the winning goal, you can't ask for anything more. It's unbelievable. It's a dream come true and I have dedicated the goal to every single Blues fan,” stated
the midfielder.
“I am expecting a baby as well in May, my first, so I am buzzing about that as well. It's a great time for me. To be fair, growing up as a supporter, and with all your friends being fans, they always say that we are a nearly club,” explained the 24-year-old.
Gardner added that the side has finally taken a step forward by reaching the Cup final and has full faith that the City would be able to overcome the Gunners. The midfielder was absolutely delighted as to how Birmingham have been able to keep their ground
in the Premier League, which points towards greater things to come.
It would end the trophy drought for any of the two finalists, Birmingham City, who have not won anything over the past 55 years or Arsenal, who are yet to lift a cup since 2005.
Both sides would give their all to prove something to the footballing world and a win at the Wembley Stadium would bring smiles for all of their loyal supporters.
