Craig Groenewald wins Men’s 100m freestyle gold: Day four - South African LC Nationals
Craig Groenewald of CGA-CG won gold medal of the Men’s 100m freestyle in the Multi-Class category of S14-S15 on day four of the South African Long Course Nationals at the KZN Aquatic-Kings Park Centre in Durban on Thursday, April 19.
The 33-year-old Groenewald continued his exhausting efforts in the double lap freestyle event as he upset his competitors by outsmarting them on the finishing end for gold medal.
With his relentless efforts, Groenewald nearly full body length ahead of his following challenger and tapped the finishing blockade with the timing of 57.70 seconds for gold medal.
The champion was followed by his team-member, Challis Wright, who remained 1.04 seconds slower from Groenewald and touched the wall with the timing of 58.74 seconds for silver medal.
His meticulous effort was chased by Sipho Mjoka of KZNA-KZ, who stayed nearly one second slower from his preceding swimmer and hit the wall with the timing of 59.40 seconds.
The 23-year-old Mjoka was trailed by Avron Manchest of WPA-WP, who remained nearly four seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and hit the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 03.11 seconds for fourth position.
Manchest was trailed by Valentino Vergotine, who stayed 0.78 seconds slower from overwhelming the struggles of his former finisher and concluded his swim in fifth best place by producing a time of 1 minute and 03.89 seconds.
Sixth position of the discipline was secured by Ray de Freitas of MP-MP, who stayed nearly two seconds away from his former finisher and completed his swim in a time of 1 minute and 05.82 seconds.
Freitas was chased by Shaun Smit of WPA-WP, who occupied seventh finishing spot of the race by producing a time of 1 minute and 04.12 seconds.
The 19-year-old Shaun was trailed by Aaron A Putz, who ended his swim in eighth best place as he submitted a time of 1 minute and 09.87 seconds.
Furthermore, the championship will end on April 22 after the completion of all listed events while the position holders were rewarded medal for their exhausting efforts at the prize distribution ceremony of the championship.
