Craig Levein set to call up Aston Villa's Barry Bannan
Scotland manager Craig Levein has admitted that he will almost certainly call up Aston Villa player Barry Bannan to the squad to play the Faroe Islands in a friendly on 16 November.
Bannan has enjoyed a relatively restricted Aston Villa career to date making a handful of appearances for the club over recent weeks. However, this has not put Levein off who says he will make a number
of changes for the match in late November.
"I want to win so I want to keep the nucleus of the team together but
I will be adding. The plan is to bring Barry Bannan into the group as he's impressed me in the Under 21s and is appearing for Aston Villa," said Levein.
Bannan can inject some real quality and enthusiasm into the Scotland side, which should have a positive effect on everyone else. It should be an opportunity the Villa man
relishes.
A quality player
Bannan has a number of attributes that should see him do very well at the international level of the game. He has very good vision, which is useful for playing balls in
behind a defence or out to the flanks when his side is under pressure.
Bannan will be full of energy and enthusiasm as a 20-year-old. This means he should run around the pitch like a headless chicken in a Scotland shirt. This will be beneficial
to the club because it has the ability to inspire other players.
The midfielder is just finding his role in Gerard Houllier's Aston Villa team. The call up will come at a time when he should be looking to grasp every single chance he
gets with two hands.
"I don't want to sit here and name the squad because we'll be doing that in the next weeks.
But there will be one or two of the more experienced guys [in terms of the recent past] who won't be in as I feel they've had a lot of games recently," said Levein.
Betting advice
Scotland should comfortably beat the Faroe Islands. Don't be afraid to take a punt on Bannan scoring.
