Craig Lewis find his future team for 2012 after the demise of HTC-Highroad – Cycling News
Craig Lewis crashed out of Giro d’ Italia 2011 during stage 19 after hitting a traffic sign in the middle of the road. He was taken to hospital straightaway and was treated for a fractured femur and has not raced much since the incident.
Lewis had to pay a high price for the crash as he could not finish his favourite Giro d’ Italia and also had to miss most of the season as he waited for his body to recover. The cyclist has still not recovered fully but is keen to get back on his bike in
the start of the coming season. Craig was devastated when he found out that his team HTC-Highroad has announced to end their associations with professional cycling.
It was truly a tough time for the cyclist who had to find a new team while not being able to walk properly. He did not lose hope and after a long effort Lewis has managed to find his future team but the announcement has not been made officially as yet. Craig
mentioned that he has found the right team for himself and also believes that his performance at the Giro was good enough to earn him a place in any team. He said, "For all the work I did in the Giro I'd assume I'd find a home at any team. There aren't many
guys that can do that."
The 26-year-old also mentioned that closure of HTC-Highroad is certainly a big loss to the sport and also the merger of Leopard Trek and RadioShack is not making things easy for the cyclists. Lewis is thankful to have his future secured for next season as
he said, "This team showed me a lot of belief and a lot of respect. I will have a leadership role, and it will give me more freedom. What more can you ask for from a team?"
Craig is setting his eyes on the Tour of California and will ride the event after his full recovery but it is uncertain as to which team he will be representing in 2012.
