Craig Lewis wins the second stage of the Tour De Beauce 2012
Craig Lewis of Team Champion System Pro Cycling marked his first victory of the 2012 season after his tremendous performance during the stage 2 of the Tour De Beauce.
The American managed a five second lead over James Sparling of Team Raleigh-GAC during the race and climbed the top podium spot.
He finished the 160 kilometre pursuit to Mines in a quickest time of 4 hours, 5 minutes and 7 seconds and restricted James Sparling and Alexander Serebryakov at the second and the third spots.
Matthias Friedemann of team Champion System Pro Cycling, Serghei Tvetcov of Team Exergy and Martin Gilbert of Team Spidertech p/b C10 occupied the fourth, the fifth and the sixth positions respectively.
Alexander Candelario and Craig Lewis succeeded at the first and the second sprints of the race while James Williamson and Craig Lewis dominated the first two mountains of the event respectively.
Francisco Mancebo of Team Competitive is leading the stage 2 classifications with a gap of 3 seconds over Craig Lewis of Team Champion System.
The Spaniard was delighted with the achievement and noted that he was not expecting the top overall spot.
"I wasn't thinking about (the overall standings) too much," he noted.
"I figured when we made it over the last KOM (with 30 km to go) with about two minutes then we could hold it to the finish".
"Controlling the gap at three or four minutes, that was OK for us," he concluded.
"We were waiting for the teams of the sprinters to chase, but in the end it was just Team Type 1".
"Tomorrow if I feel good it's OK, if not, it's no fault of the team," he concluded.
Craig Lewis of Team Champion System Pro Cycling is holding the second spot with a deficit of 3 seconds on Mancebo.
Ryan Roth of Team Spidertech C10, Matthias Friedemann and Sebastien Sales of Team Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies claimed the next four spots.
Matthias Friedemann is leading the point’s classifications with a total number of 25 UCI points to his credit.
Francisco Mancebo of Team Competitive Cyclist Racing and Craig Lewis of Team Champion System Pro Cycling achieved the second and the third spots.
