Craig Smith sees green light for Otago Volts after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bradley-Scott-c1189’s backtrack – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Craig-Murray-Smith-c51722, the young First-Class cricketer of New Zealand, is likely to be given a new contract by Otago Volts as one of their contracted players, Bradley Scott, has refused to join the club. Smith is now hopeful to play the 2011-12 domestic season for
his former team.
A few weeks back, Scott indicated that he wanted to return to Otago Volts, the team where he started from, as he thought he would be in better position while playing for this side. The news of Scott’s comeback was a shower of spring for the Volts’ managers,
and they hurried to include his name in the list of 11 contract players.
However, Scott took a U-turn last week and announced that he would continue to play for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Northern-Districts-c825 and was not going to move to Volts’ camp.
This sudden and unexpected backtrack of Scott has saddened and shocked the club selectors who are desperately looking for a substitute now. In this situation, Smith has chance to be considered as an ideal replacement of Scott as both are pacers.
Talking to the media, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ross-Alexander-Dykes-c86869, said, “It is a surprise and somewhat disappointing given that it was Bradley who initiated the move south.”
He further told, “However, I well appreciate that family life must take precedence over sport and we wish Bradley, Jennie and their two girls well. Families are forever, where cricket careers can be short and fickle."
Since his ouster from the Volts, Smith has been working with Southland Cricket Association’s Elite Academy which provides training programmes to the region’s cricketers.
Some leading figures in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Smith-c90598’s stint with Otago Volts will give the club a mega boost and capacitate them to thrive in the season.
The 26-year-old left-arm pacer has played 11 First-Class and 16 List A matches so far with 16 and 17 wickets respectively in the two formats. Smith has also represented New Zealand Under- 19s team.
Smith, who is still in the beginning of his domestic cricket career, thinks that he can perk himself up by playing for Volts.
