Craig White appointed as Hampshire assistant coach - Cricket News Update
Former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 all-rounder Craig White is all set to move to the Rose Bowl to join Hampshire County Cricket Club as assistant coach ahead of the 2012 county season.
The 42-year-old former Yorkshire cricketer was expected to get back to the umpiring role after quitting as the coach of Yorkshire’s second XI last autumn but he opted to continue his coaching role, but this time with a different county.
After spending almost 22 years at Headingly, as player and then coach, the former England all-rounder will take up his new role with Hampshire on March 1, 2012. He was excited about his future at Role Bowl.
"I've been with Yorkshire 22 years but feel it would be interesting to see how things are at a new county," said White who had been with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yorkshire-c867 since 1990.
"I've always admired the way things are done at Hampshire…They've got some great young cricketers there so I'm looking forward to working with them," he added further.
At Rose Bowl, the 42-year-old former Yorkshire all-rounder will work under Hampshire cricket secretary Tim Tremlett and team manager Giles White. The team manager was delighted to have someone of White’s stature at the club and hoped
his experience of county cricket will be really helpful for the players.
"The players and staff are excited about this appointment,” said Giles speaking to the media reporters on Tuesday. “We all look forward to working with Craig and tapping into his experience. We are delighted to have him at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hampshire-c789,"
he added further.
During his 18-year-long playing career with Yorkshire, White compiled a tally of over 20,000 runs besides claiming more than 700 wickets for the county. He also captained the Carnegies in 2005 and 2006 seasons before retiring from
professional cricket in 2008. After his retirement as player, the all-rounder joined the coaching set-up of Yorkshire. He quit the coaching role last autumn in the wake of team’s relegation to Division two last summer.
The poor performance also saw the departure of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jason-Neil-Gillespie-c66461 arrived Headingly as county’s new coach.
