  1. Alot!  This is from someone who has had identity theft occur! They can get you in alot of trouble that you will not know about until 3 or so months down the road and they will be long gone!

I don't mean to scare you but I thought I was very careful with my personal information and somehow out of somewhere someone got ahold of my personal info.  They totally got me and good too!

Contact immediately all three credit bureaus; Equifax, Experian and Transunion and place an identity theft alert on your credit reports.  This way anytime anyone tries to use your personal info, you will receive a phone call to confirm that it is a legit transaction and if not, they may get caught :).  Contact your local police and file a report; this will help you in the event illegal activity occurs in your name down the road.  The police will take a copy of your current credit file and place it with the report.  Then when illegal activity occurs you have something to stand on.  It's awful when people get ahold of your personal info and use it illegally.  Trust me these people they don't care!

Take the precautions now and you will avoid alot of uneccessary problems in the future.

    Good Luck!

  2. If you provided your Social Security number, they can ruin your credit, drain your bank account, and make your life h**l. Cancel any and all credit cards, notify your bank to freeze your checking and savings accounts, or close them and open new ones, if you have any money left in them. Notify the 3 credit reporting agancies and have them flag your social security number to contact you before granting credit with your info. Oh, you won't have to worry about cashing any "check" because you won't get one!.

  3. Is the check for more than the purchase price?  Are you suppose to cash the check and send part of it somewhere?  It's a scam.

But if all they have is your name address and cell phone number, you don't have much to worry about. The scam part is getting you to cash the bogus check and send part of the money back to them.

  4. What's the problem here. If the person sent you a cheque why don't you cash it. If you just sent your name and address...there's nothing they can do with that...I mean the same info is kept in the phone book. Just relax.

  5. if somehow u told them ur SS then they could steal your identity
