  1. what do you do b/t 3 and 6?

  2. You really need to talk to your parents about this. By 6th grade you should be able to stay home by yourself after school (unless you have major behavior issues) so try telling your parents that you feel responsible enough to take care of yourself. If that isn't possible, you could either go to your school library to work on homework in a quiet, safe place, or you can go to a friend's house and do homework until your parents can pick you up.

I can certainly believe that you have that much homework. If you are in middle school, you probably have 6 different teachers, and each teacher might see no problem with assigning an hour's worth of homework or massive projects, forgetting that the students have other classes. It's also possible that your study skills need improvement, and you might want to look into asking your teachers how they recommend that you study.

  3. keep working and pushing foward i had the same problem the work pays off in the end

  4. i think you should work in a group after classes but if it is too much and your falling behind then you might ask a family member to help or talk with teachers or just prey god gets you ahead of the game.Good luck and dont give up.it is really kewl that you are even addressing that issue but by the sixth grade you guys are way more advance than parents on average.keep your head up!

  5. You should talk to your parents about this, they should be able to help you out.

  6. why don't you do your hw while you're waiting for your parents?

  7. spend your waiting time in the library, that way your homeworks are done when you get home at 6 or atleast half done.

  8. A couple of things come to mind.  First of all, if school is out at 3:00, and you get home at 6:00, what do you do in between?  If you have that much homework, maybe you should be in a library or somewhere you can get some work done before you get home (since I assume once you get home, you also have to deal with dinner).  Secondly, are you able to get any of it done on weekends?  Finally, if you really are being given five hours of homework a night on weeknights, your parents should have a talk with your teacher.  I have to wonder if maybe learning some study skills might help.  You shouldn't be working that hard in 6th grade.

  9. Fist thought: what on earth are your parents doing *ALLOWING* you to stay up till midnight doing homework?!?

Does your mum even know this is what you're doing?

Does your teacher know you're staying up till midnight doing your homework?

Doesn't your teacher realise how tired you are the next day? By the end of the week? By the end of term?

Also I find it hard to believe that any teacher in year 6 expects you to spend 6 hours a night on your homework. If that's the case, then what are you/your teacher doing with the six hours a day you spend in school?!? In my country the government has set maximum limits on the amount of homework kids who go to school can be expected to do and, for kids in year 6, the maximum amount of homework they're allowed in total, per night, is 45 minutes so, if you had classes with five teachers one day and they all wanted to set you homework, they'd only be allowed to set 9 minutes worth of homework each.

45 minutes of homework per night, not six hours and, as a country, we still manage to come above the US in every single one of the worldwide educational achievements ratings!

No-one needs to be doing six hours of homework, no-one should be doing six hours of homework per night...my 24yr old brother is doing a BSc (hons) degree and is on track to get a 1:1 and even he doesn't do six hours of homework a night (or six hours a week!). Six hours of homework a night is ridiculous for anyone.

If you're honestly getting 6 hours worth of homework per night or finding it so tough that it is taking you 6 hours to do whatever homework you do get, your parents need to go and speak to your teacher...urgently!!

Secondly, instead of going to daycare, why don't you just go to the library or a neighbour's/a relly's/a friend's house after school and work there?

(After all, as homeschoolers, we are always being told that all kids at school have heaps of friends to hang out with 24/7!)

If you really must go to this daycare, why not ask the person who runs it to set up a quiet corner where you (and anyone else who wants to) can do their homework in peace? If they won't take you seriously, get your parents to ask that they provide you with somewhere to study while you're there. Or get your parents to find you another daycare where they will work with you and support you so you can get your homework done.

Or, better still, leave school and take up homeschooling. This is the homeschooling board, after all; homeschooling and *NOT* the 'school at home' board. If you were to homeschool like me and my siblings, you'd never have to worry about doing any homework ever again (lol!).

You would certainly not be still trying to get your lessons done at midnight.

  10. First of all, you should be talking to your parents about this. Consider asking your parents if they'd let you be home by yourself. If you're in gr. 6, you're probably old enough to babysit, which means you could be home alone, so maybe you could just go straight home and do your homework then.

If that's not a possibility, talk to the people at the daycare centre about you having a space where you are sure nothing will get on your work. And then buy some ear plugs.

Third, perhaps you need help with your homework/study skills. If you are home at 6, let's say you take an hour out for supper, that leaves you 5 hours until you say you go to bed. There's absolutely no reason why you should be getting 5 hours of homework. I have to wonder if you understand the work or are staying focused, or if you're stressing so much about getting it done that it's slowing you down. Do your friends honestly spend 5 hours each night doing homework??? I would doubt it. Talk to your teachers about this part of it.

  11. I used to get home at 7 pm or later each day after school with tennis and other after school activities during elementary school.  I don't know why your teacher would pile so much homework on you in elementary school.  But, I would really not worry too much about sixth grade.  I would start working hard once in middle school, which is what I did and I am doing fine in high school.  But, if you are really concerned and want to do well in sixth grade I would probably try to do your homework from 3-6 when you are waiting.  I am not sure if you are doing something else, but you could maybe go to a table and start doing it while you are waiting.  Good luck!!!
