  1. I think cramps are normal when you are just starting out. Don't get discouraged by it, because it will go away after your body starts adapting to running. It might actually be a good guage of your fitness level, because once they disappear, it means your fitness is progressing.

If it is still recurring, the only other things might be drinking too much water before your run, or your heart might need to be checked to make sure it is functioning normally.

If you think you are really out of shape, try biking instead- or until you can get your fitness up a bit more.  Running is really physically intensive and biking is easier to start.

  2. I would walk when I got bad cramps. In intervals, recovery walk 4 minutes, run 4 minutes, recover 4 minutes, etc. I changed altitudes and hadn't run in a while. It took a couple of days for this to progress to running 30 minutes at a time.

  3. Thats usually normal to feel cramps, if you are first starting out. I used to get them myself when I first started out which was in 7th grade Cross Country but now that I got more advanced in it I don't get cramps anymore. But one reason why it might be bothering you is that you at least need to eat something nutritional before you run or at least before running drink some water or gatorade since that would also help you out. Trust me on this when I first started out I used to stop durring races when I wasn't supposed to because I used to get stomach cramps really bad. Now thats all changed for me since I know what to do. Plus you are supposed to run at your own pace and breathe at your own pace.
