  1. first you tie it to the end of your fishing line, then you cast it out into the water, then you reel it back in.

  2. Cast in shallow river rapids upstream into still water directly behind rocks and other structure. Helegramites work too. In other water try different speeds and retrievals til they bite and stick with that. On sunny days cast around structures. Cloudy overcast days venture deeper in other places. Bass tend to hunt away from cover when its overcast because prey cant see them as well. Sunny days dictate ambushes from cover.

  3. use a lite line 10lb or so .pick a bait that will get to where the fish are holding,  crank it down pause , vary your retrieve

  4. Try to bounce the lip of the crankbait onto the rocky ledges.

  5. #1 Use smaller sized crankbaits.

#2 use them around rocks and boulders.. or over grass beds.

On the full moon you want to use something that looks like a crawfish. Crawfish spawn on the full moon and tend to feed heavily on crawfish at that time. On the no moon phase they will hit shad or fish colored baits. I like the Rapala Shad Rap in Size 5 or 7 .. Like to toss it to a rock wall and just pull it a few feet making it dive around 2 feet deep. Then I stop it and let it float close to the surface and do it again. 2 or 3 times of doing that and I then give it a regular retrieve. I have caught many smallmouth on the Black over silver Shad rap using that technique.

  6. Find a likely habitat, and begin to cast through the area, changing your retrieval speed until you find one that entices the fish to strike.
