Cranking car motor: how long is too long?

Is 30 seconds too long to hold the key while cranking to start a car? A minute? Just curious, thanks.

  1. Well if your car is in perfect condition just as you turn the ignition it should start without cranking I hope you get the point!!


  2. It depends what kind of car and if it is fuel injected or not, if fuel injected, should start when turning the key over, not fuel injected, may take longer to start. But sound like yours is not getting gas.

  3. if you do that just make sure you dont over do it or you can burn out the starter. there could be a clogged fuel filter or a bad fuel pump that may be making it take longer to start. just bring it to a mechanic and they can fix it

  4. If you hold the key for more than 15 second ,it could be too long and may damage your starter.if your car can not start in first time turn the key,stop wait for 15 second and start again and repeat like that .
