Crannaghbeg Tico runs to close victory in A3 race at Hall Green
Similar to auto racing, greyhound races sometimes end in a photo finish, with a minuscule distance separating first place from second. That’s exactly what happened to Crannaghbeg Tico
in an A3 race held during an exciting day of 480m races at Hall Green Greyhound Stadium on Wednesday 3 November.
Crannaghbeg Tico, the 2-1 favourite, started the race with a bang from trap two, and never let go of the lead. He held an early pace, which allowed him to lead the run in. He went on to
finish in the top spot with a time of 29.34 seconds. But just a head’s length separated the winner from second-place finisher Whiteoak Jeeves (3-1). He moved very slowly away early on, and was forced to check third. However, he quickly rebounded to finish
well in 29.35.
Kingsmill Legend (5-1) finished a neck behind second place after moving quickly away from the pack. He was leading up until the run in, resulting in a 29.38 finish that was a neck behind
Whiteoak Jeeves. Locking up fourth place was Caribbean Storm (5-1) who moved very slowly away after an early pace. He finished the race in 29.58, which placed him 2½ lengths out of the top three.
Fifth place went to Kean Willie (5-1). After holding an early pace, he moved slowly away, but only lost a ½ length in the process, finishing in 29.62. Drumscraw Joe’s (5-1) early pace
wasn’t enough to crack the top three, as he finished last in 29.68. He was ¾ lengths out of fifth place.
The A2 race that followed featured another close win. This time, it was Poirot (6-1) who lay claim on the victory. Poirot’s path to the finish line was full of obstacles, as he moved slowly
away after an early pace from trap four. After going wide, he led the run in, and finished in fine form with a time of 28.80. Toomaline Henry (2-1) finished ¾ lengths behind the winner after moving quickly away. He finished the race in 28.86.
Highview Jake, the 7-4 favourite, lay claim on third place. He moved slowly away and crowded first, but ran on to finish 1 lengths behind Toomaline Henry in 28.94. Finishing fourth was
Dukes Jester (7-1), who lost 2 ¼ lengths after crowding first and being forced to check third. He went on to finish in 29.12.
Marigold Echo (6-1) moved very slowly away from the pack before crowding first and bumping second. She finished in fifth place with a time of 29.32, 2½ lengths out of fourth place. Rounding
out the pack was sixth-place finisher Bumble Clot (5-1). She lost 1½ lengths after badly crowding first and second, resulting in a 29.44 finish.
Hall Green Greyhound Stadium will host another exciting race meeting on Friday, 5 November. The races begin at 19:35.
