Crawl space as tornado shelter?

I have a high crawl under my house. It is high enough to comfortably stand up in but it is not technically a basement. Is it safe to use as a tornado shelter?

The idea is that the place you are hiding doesn't get blown away.   If you crawl space is located at the bottom floor and has solid cement or a lot of pipes,  then that is pretty secure.

But a crawl in an attic would probably not be.

Not until you wrap a corner of it with 12 inches of reinforced concrete. Otherwise, the whole house might collapse on top of you.
