Crawley Town captain Pablo Mills upbeat despite FA Cup defeat
Crawley Town captain Pablo Mills has claimed that his side will never forget their FA Cup encounter against Manchester United despite the fact that the non-leaguers lost the match.
The Red Devils defeated Crawley 1-0 at Old Trafford to book their place in the quarterfinal stage of the FA Cup.
Crawley Town captain Pablo Mills was surprisingly upbeat after the match. Mills expressed his disappointment at his side being knocked out of the competition, but he was glad that they did not go down without a fight.
Mills said, “We're disappointed to be fair, we probably could have made the keeper work more. (But) if we're going to go out, it's probably the best place. It's been first class being here all week, it's an experience we'll never forget.”
Crawley Town striker Matt Tubbs hailed his side’s fighting spirit, saying, “I think 1-0 is a credit to us. We worked hard but in the first half we probably gave them a little too much respect and they're always going to punish you.”
Crawley almost pulled off the biggest upset in the Cup history against the Red Devils, but Wes Brown’s goal ensured that the non-leaguers could not repeat the giant killing acts they showed earlier on in the competition.
Many would even argue that Crawley deserved a better result. Manchester United were poor throughout the match, with the second string Red Devils proving to be largely ineffective against their valiant visitors.
Wes Brown’s second half-goal was all that separated the two sides on the night. Situation could have been very different if Crawley’s Richard Brodie shot had gone in the back of the Manchester United net. However, his effort came back
off the post, much to relief of the crowd at Old Trafford.
