Question:

Crawling before sitting....anyone else??

Riley is 9 months old (today!!) and is ready to crawl here any day now. He's been getting up on his hands & knees and rocking back and forth for a few days now. The only "problem" is that he isn't sitting by himself yet. Is it normal for him to crawl before he even sits? He's such a rollie pollie that as soon as he sits, he loses his balance & topples over. Sometimes I can get him to sit there for a few seconds if he is leaning forward a little bit.

Also, when is the normal range for a baby to crawl? Riley was born 8 weeks early so *technically* he's 7 months old. But I don't even consider him a preemie. At his 8 month appointment he was a whopping 18 lbs 5 oz!! He's come a long way from 3 lbs 10 oz in just a short 8 months. What did your baby weigh around that age?

Sorry that's 2 questions...forgive me!!

Thank you!

  1. My son is 7 months and sounds like your bub - he will sit for about 5-10 seconds, but he is so active and wants to be part of EVERYTHING that as soon as he sees a toy, a cushion, someone walk past or even his own FOOT, he topples over so he can wriggle and roll around to get it. So he CAN sit up, he just doesnt like to coz he cant DO anything while hes there....

Hes just starting to get up onto his knees so crawling is just around the corner.

My son is about 19 1/2 lbs.

  2. I think everything is normal =)

My mum told me I never crawled, I would get on all fours and pull myself up on the side of the couch or the coffee table and she was worrying why wasn't I crawling?!? A week later I just got up and started walking around at  8 months old..

  3. My son Tyler is my wonder baby.

He was 10 weeks early, weighing in at 8lbs4ounces. He was a late bloomer on everything. He had not even prefected sitting up til he was 9 months or so but He started crawling when he was 10 months but still prefered to do the army crawl. He didnt normally crawl til after one year. He is now 17 months and taking his first steps. His doctor wants me to put him in a baby therapy called early intervention.

All babies do there own thing. He will get it soon enough. :)

  4. i didnt even crawl! i scooted around on my bum according to my dad!

but my son is nearly 5 months and he has just started as of today to flip over from his back ontp his belly, so hopefully he will be crawling soon! no sign of his sitting yet though! same as your little one with the balance! :)
