My son is 7 months old and his been getting up on his knees for a couple weeks. Just in the last couple of days he starts rocking back and forth. I have read this is the last step before actually crawling. Is this true? How long after your baby started doing this did they crawl?

  1. Emma did that for quite awhile, although I had also heard it is normally a short time.  One day she just took off crawling.  She was eight months.

  2. Yep, that is true! They usually start the rocking back and forth on hands and knees first. It won't be long now! I believe my daughter was crawling just a day or two after that. Oh, how exciting! LOL I think I called everyone I knew when she started crawling.

  3. Right at 7 months, Johnny started the rocking thing, then about 2 weeks later, he started doing this inchworm crawl thing (you know the breakdance, the 'inchworm'?  It looked exactly like that, lol).

Anyways, he started crawling the regular way probably around 8.5-9 months.  :)

  4. every baby is different.. my son started crawling around 6 months and my friends son didnt start crawling till he was 8 months so every baby is different.. and soon right after he started doing that he started.. like right after..

  5. My oldest never got up on his knees to crawl, he did the army commando crawl (too cute!).  He was 7 months old when he started.

  6. He sounds like he's ready to go!

Our son didn't bother crawling - knowing his personality now, he probably thought it was 'too slow'!! He did what we called the 'crab walk' - no knees, just hands and feet. (yes, I know a real crab walk is done backwards)

    Man, could he move!

Time to seriously baby-proof your house now. Get down on your belly, hands and knees and start figuring out what to move!

  7. Mine also did the army crawl Nina. I would have to say he was probably better at it than a lot of the actual army men. LOL. Well he started doing that at around 7 1/2 months and never fully started actually crawling until about a week ago. (He will be a year old on the 29th.) Just yesterday he took his first steps, so he really just army crawled through the majority of his crawling phase. Yes it is true that they start rocking back and forth before they start crawling. Some do the inch worm, some do the army crawl, but most just go right into actual crawling. ARE YOU READY FOR THIS? LOL
