Crazy Food Places to Visit in the US?

Question

Nevada Utah Colorado Nebraska Iowa Illinois Ohio New York. I will be driving these states and would like to get some ideas of places to eat that serve the not so normal cuisine. Or resturants that have a famouse specialty. Thanks for the help

Ranch Kitchen, Gallup New Mexico

On route 66. It was closed for a while but I understand it has reopened.  

Have the Navajo Tacos.  Indian fry bread topped with chili or beans, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, salsa, etc.  Usually these are called Indian Tacos in the southwest and Oklahoma.  At Ranch Kitchen they serve them as big as your head.

If you can't get to Ranch Kitchen, lots of truck stops and diners along the way serve indian tacos. Be sure to stop and have them. They are great!

go to gray's papaya... they serve u 2 hot dogs & a papaya juice drink for like $3.  strange combo but so good.  it's on 8th ave in nyc.

Lambert's  "Home of the Throwed Rolls" if you get to Sikeston, MO   You've got to have real Chicago style pizza so while in Chicago go to Gino's East or Lou Malnatti's (Giovanni's will do, so will Pizzaria Uno)  Be sure and eat at a Maid Rite in Iowa, home of the loose meat sandwich.    I take it you are driving on Interstate 80.   Stop at Wacott, IA if you want to see  THE biggest and best truck stops in the USA, IOWA 80 TRUCKSTOP  They also have a great buffet and really good food.  You could spend an hour just looking around their store which has a little bit of everything.   Its worth the stop!  Take a look at thier website and take a virtual tour.
