Question:

Crazy night. A little psychology help?

Friday and Saturday night I drank. A lot. Saturday I was pretty sleep deprived and hungover, but decided to drink more with a friend. I got home late, slept for about five hours and spent Sunday trying to rehydrate myself. I had the shakes for most of the day, so at 9 p.m. I decided to hit the hay early.

I dreamt some pretty awful dreams. I watched a horse get skinned alive by some weird circulating saw. I watched a bunch of people raid a dead person's house and steal all of her clothes to sell. I also dreamed that I was stuck in a crumbling basement with my little brother while an earthquake was shaking the place apart. Obviously, I had restless sleep, and it is a strange thing for me to remember this many "dreams" or to have them so scary. This isn't even the craziest part.

At about 5:30 a.m. my eyes snapped open. I actually HEARD someone in my hallway, whispering loudly about "crackers and crumbs". There was no doubt, whatsoever, that someone was in the hallway - and I could tell they were low to the ground (on their hands and knees). I was absolutely terrified. My heart starting pounding, and I was basically paralyzed from the fear. After about five minutes of not hearing anything more, I tried to think my way through it. I thought, and this made sense at the time, "i can probably just hear things from beyond this world. it is probably my cousin (who just died) and my third ear can hear it." I then realized that this made absolutely no sense, and that I didn't even have a third ear. After about ten minutes, decided to get up and check the house. I found nothing. My roommate got up to see what the h**l I was doing, and assured me it was just a dream - but it wasn't! The weird thing is that I was awake the whole time, even though the things I heard and told myself made no sense.

Do you think this was in relation to the drinking/sleep deprivation?

Any thoughts/info would be appreciated.

  1. First of all, DON'T DRINK SOOOO MUCH!!!! That c**p will mess you up if you have more than a fish does water. Also without enough sleep and all that alcohol of course your going to get a bit loopy. Get sleep, stop drinking as much, and also I really doubt on anything paranormal unless your cousin died a violent death.

  2.   I am not a psychologist but I can relate to what you're feeling.  I too drank quite a bit this past weekend and experienced some very vivid, frightening dreams.  For example,  in one dream I was walking down a hall on my way to be executed when I broke free,  ran outside, and jumped in a lake.  I remember just wanting to feel water one more time.  I went under and when I came back up I was captured.  I was then resigned to knowing I was going to die and woke up in a panic.

I think that the physical effects of alcohol and the process of it leaving your system manifests itself this way sometimes after too much drink.  I have also found that this occurs most often and most severely after drinking hard liquor but wine can also cause this.  Alcohol can cause some very powerful sensations/dreams when you overindulge.   The more you drink the more likely this is to happen.  At least that has been my experience.

  3. You are experiencing Delirium Tremens already by having the shakes - this may be an auditory hallucination, which is also part of Delirium Tremens (DT's)

See if it happens on a night that you have NOT been drinking.  It is possible that you have true visions/hear things from the supernatural world.  But see if it happens again.

To me, it sounds connected to your excess drinking

  4. Drugs and Alcohol induce Trance States involving Hallucinations, feeling of flying, feeling of over-powering strength etc. So it is probably due to the Alcohol that you faced such dilemmas. Try to minimize your drinking. It isn't health and lot term effects of drinking could cause complete memory loss and delusion.
