Question:

Cream Cheese and Jelly sandwiches?

Since my now-38-YO son has been in junior high school, he's been eating cream-cheese-and-jelly sandwiches(he stopped eating them on a daily basis since his college years, only eating them sporadically)...

Is this a "normal" lunch sandwich?...unfortunately, he got this idea from his late grandfather(my dad)...

What now?...should I support his HATRED for PB&J sandwiches?

Sigh...

  1. let him eat whatever he likes!!! btw... cream cheese and jelly is awesome!!!

  2. to be honest

cream cheese and jelly tastes prettyyyy good!

but it hink its normal to have only ONCE in a while

if he was only eating that, (minus fruit or any veggies or anyhting for lunch) i don't htink it would've been that healthy

eating it on a daily basis is not good at all

    once in a while

    sure why not

  3. Is there a food that you really do not like?  How annoying would it be if soemone kept trying to get you to eat what you really don't like?  There is nothing wrong with cream cheese and jelly.  Why do you have a problem with it?

  4. I love those, especially toasted in a sandwichmaker (the one that seals the bread, I don't know if they even make those any more). My favourite combo was the cheese and sour cherry jam.

  5. Mmmmmmmm cc & jelly is good!

I mix up the CC & jelly so it's all 1 spread - I used this home made zucchini jello jelly - and CC

    Support him!

  6. of course! lol.

i had one for lunch today. I dont like peanut butter.

  7. Dedrick's right, Pauline...

Just try it for a while!

I too hated the "traditional" PB&J stuff, especially since my mother had to lsiten to the teachers and those darn Jiffy PB commercials for many years...and I was a Skippy creamy PB fan!

Don't worry, if he has any kids, he'll probably try to turn them onto this great sandwich, espcially if the jelly/jam/preserves are in his favorite fruits/flavors...and you'll be powerless to stop it!...besides, the "nutrition police" have NO say in this matter at all...it's not just a phase either!...enjoy his choices, even if they aren't the "cultural; norm" here in the US advertising realm!

    Good luck!

  8. who's to say whats normal? If you like something why shouldn't you have it. Sounds fine to me except it's not exactly nutritious. lol I don't envy your dilemma...

  9. Cream Cheese and Jelly is quite good. I have a toasted bagles with cream cheese and strawberry jelly at least once a week.

Don't knock it until you try it.

  10. he's 38!!! old enough to make his own decisions AND sandwiches.

  11. Don't worry about your son he's 38, remember?

  12. I prefer them over PB&J.  Had too many of those as a child.

  13. Very good sandwich...my mom used to make them for me when I was little, and I still eat them every once in awhile.  You should try one, you just might be surprised!

  14. I like cream cheese and peanut butter myself !

  15. I would say that it's fairly normal. Given your definition of normal, that is.

My idea of a normal sandwich is:

    1. bread

    2. nutrient type item or spread - meat, peanut butter, whatever  ( I would think cream cheese qualifies with 2g of protein per serving)

    3. flavorful spread (jelly, mustard, mayo, ketchup, etc)

    4. bread

Sounds like he has the makings of a normal sandwich.

Cream cheese has half the calories and less total fat and sodium per serving than Peanut butter, so it might even make sense. Of course, nutritional details will vary by brand.
