My 5 week old baby has just had surgery. His bowel movements have been quite watery due to the antibiotics he has been on therefor he has a really bad rash on his butt. Doc has told me to use zinc compound paste but it is really hard to apply. Anyone have any ideas on what to use.

  1. All these ladies are right about the creams, but since he was on antibiotics you also have to look for yeasts which will be little white bumps.  If he gets those them talk to the pharmacist, but I believe you use and anti fungal cream (like store brand lotromine for athletes foot) and a hydrocortizone for swelling (check with the dr.)

Also WAY IMPORTANT get that baby on some probiotics.  They make specific infant probiotics.  This good bacteria in his gut will help to replace the good stuff being killed by the antibiotics.  Just be sure to alternate with the antibiotics.  Probiotics can only be good for you!!!.

If you are breastfeeding that should help and you should also put some breastmilk on the rash (will help with yeast and sooths in general) If you don't b/f you may want to think about re-lactating (it can be done with not to much effort since he is so young)

    Good Luck

  2. Try to let his little bum air out by leaving the nappy off for an hour or so.  Also, corn starch will help dry his skin without harming him.  Then before you put a nappy back on, lather him up with Desitin or Beaudreaux's Butt Paste.  If you put the creams on while his bum is moist, it will trap the moisture next to his skin and the rash might get worse.  If you put it on when his bum is dry, it will work like it's supposed to and seal OUT the moisture.

    Best of Luck!  Poor baby!!

  3. A & D Ointment is amazing!  Poor guy!

  4. sudio cream, will clear it up and just a few days and is really soothing. Also let him have time with the nappy off to let his skin breathe. Lay him on a changing mat and let him play/lay there for a while. If he messes its easy enough to clean up.But leave him without the nappy for atleast 2 hours a day.

  5. A good cream is bepanthem it really works

  6. Boudreaux's Butt Paste

    That's seriously what it's called - LOL

  7. I love Butt Paste.  I think the brand name is Boudreaux?  It clears up any diaper rash my son gets.  It doesn't smell medicine-y either, which is nice, but it will stain clothing so you have to make sure it stays on the diaper, baby, or changing pad.

  8. Is Desitin available where you live?

  9. sudocream....brilliant stuff...

    penaten...

    paw paw cream...

a few choices for you... sudo is the best, cheapest and at night lather bubs with good ol vasalene... thats when most rashes occour...

  10. My son was born with really sensitive skin luckily we found this out while he was still in the hospital and they applied Aquaphor and it worked like a charm.  Now his toosh is much better but I still apply it just in case and I also use it during cold weather on his cheeks and on my lips as chapstick trust me it works great, I also use A&D cream it's really good for booty rashes.

  11. I've used paw paw ointment, available at health food shops. That's cleared up my daughter's worst nappy rashes in a day. No icky chemicals, either.

  12. use diapoline cream

  13. Try A&D Ointment or Boudreaux's Buttpaste
