Question:

Creating a free, wireless space?

I would love to free myself of wires by creating a wireless connection between just about everything (monitor, printer, cpu, etc). I think there are servers that can do that but would I have to update everything I own to do so? I am so tired of seeing these tangled wires behind my computer. I could use a hiding mechanism (piping, etc) but I'm not up for it. Can anyone give me advice or set me up with links to websites of those companies that have devices that would be beneficial to me?

  1. I don't know of a wireless connection to a monitor, but there are definitely wireless printers and you can either buy an adapter card for the CPU or (if you build your own) even buy a motherboard that has built in wireless.  You may decide to completely dump the CPU and go with a laptop which does away with the wires for the monitor.  You can buy a wireless router that also serves as a print server so your printer is plugged into the router and not the CPU but that just 'reroutes' the wire.  I have a US Robotics DLS Modem/Router/Print Server that helps eliminates the need for a separate modem/router and allows all PCs & Laptops to use the printer.  It eliminates the modem ethernet cable from modem to router and the modems power cord (so two cords gone).  The problem is everything you have needs power and thus a power cord, then they need to connect to each other so you have at least one cable going between the two.  Again a laptop can run on it's battery so you'll only need to connect it when the battery is low and it is "wireless" so no cable for router access and it's going to have it's own built in monitor so no monitor cables.  If you stick with a CPU, consider wireless keyboards and mice but keep in mind how far you will be from the cpu when using these as some have very weak signals and will not work if you are too far away.
