Creating a partition from a unpartitioned space?

So couple days of ago my computer was working fine until I booted it and it erased my Os and partition already installed. Now i put in my Windows Professional Xp Sp2 cd in and is in the partitioning setup menu. The only thing that is there is "Unpartitioned space 7805 MB". So do i make another partition space because my hard drive is actually 30 GB. So i tried making another partition and ill push C, then I get that i can make a partition of 7797(that would be the biggest size i can make) and then when im done i push enter and nothing happens. I just get back at the windows setup. I didn't make a partition? I am lost here.

Cheers.

  1. Could you possibly explain more? It could be that the windows bootloader (NTLDR) was somehow messed up ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTLDR ). Do you receive any kind of error while the computer is booting (such as "NTLDR is missing")?

If you had important data on the hard drive, you should try to recover it (if you already haven't).

If you are sure you want to reformat, I recommend that you download DBAN ( http://www.dban.org/ ) and burn it to a CD with a program such as Infrarecorder ( http://infrarecorder.sourceforge.net/ ). After that, insert the CD into the problematic computer and have it erase the drive. Then try running the windows setup again.
