  1. you its a desert planet which has the potential of the life

  2. If mankind doesn't develop the technologies to survive on a hostile planet, we will go the way of the dinosaur.  The Earth will become an exceedingly hostile place after the eruption of one of our super-volcanoes or impact of a small asteroid (large meteor).  Self-sustaining colonies on the Moon or Mars  might just be the only way to ensure survival.  There are even some who argue that this has been done before.

As far as the bucks that would be spent on such colonies they will be spent right here on Earth.  I'm not sure that even one dollar has gone into space in the entire history of our combined space programs.  Social programs are funded by taxes, and everyone involved in our space programs is taxed.

  3. It isn't either or. We can do more than one thing at a time you know. Very little money is spent, by NASA or anyone else, on creating living environment for humans on Mars. Far more is spent on staging the world cup or super bowl every year. NASA spends most of its money on the space station and space shuttle, neither of which have anything to do with Mars at all.

  4. Yes, I think so. Especially since we're nowhere near ready to understand how living environments work enough to create them from scratch.
