Creating my own country map???

Question

ok, in my world geography class, we just got assigned our end of the year project to make our own country. the first thing i have to do is create a map. (the country has to be an island) i somehow need to make my country creative, but idk how to make the shape, or how to draw out the states within it. if you have any cool ideas, let me know :]

Well since this is an island, you need a port, a bay, a river delta (you learned what that is in geography im sure), also you dont need alot of states if its an island, maybe just 3. On one side of the island draw some forests, and on the other side where people live, make it less wooded. Throw in a mountain or two, with some lakes. :D

Close your eyes, and draw an outline in any shape about the size of the island. Then again with eyes closed, draw criss crossing lines across the island. When done, open your eyes, and then smooth out the state sizes.
