Creating silk?

Is it cruelty to create silk from silk worms. Do they eat the silk worms once they are killed? How do they keep generations from not being extinct.

  1. That's why there are Silk worm plants(like electric plant), to produce more silk worms, and not let them get extinct... They don't eat the worms... the entire thing becomes cloth... and it depends... Whether killing them is cruel or not...


  2. Actually some places that produce silk do eat the worms after removing the silk from their cocoons.

    Not all of the cocoons are used to make silk, some are left to mature into moths.  The moths will mate and the females then lay eggs.  The eggs turn into worms the worms form new cocoons and the process is repeated.
