Question:

Creationism vs. evolution?

All my life i've been told that all animals dinosaurs etc. evolved, but I recently read an essay on how the theory of evolution is full of flaws, and some of the author's arguments seem sensible. However, creationism seems to have many problems as well. What do you guys think? Who is right?

  1. If you really want to put your question in perspective, reread the article with these questions in mind:

    1) What mechanism does ID propose for speciation and adaptation of life to its environment?

2)What is the nature of the intelligence that designed us?

Asking these two questions is quite enough to fatally damage the ID house of cards.

Now, as for evolution: it's withstood 150 years of scrutiny and detailed fault-finding from opponents and creationists, and is the foundation of modern life sciences.  If someone from the scientific community makes a discovery that overturns it, would it not cause a world-wide sensation?

EDIT--also note the ambiguous use of the word "theory."   You can see it even in the list of answers.  There is "theory," as it is used in science, which is a very top notch thing: it's falsifiable, testable, parsimonious, and predictions can be made from it.  Germ theory, atomic theory, and theory of relativity, and theory of gravitation all fall under this umbrella.  Then there is "theory," as in unfounded, unproven speculation, which is what creationists would like you to think it means.

EDIT--Exo: I guess salvation in Jesus Christ makes you a biologist.  The "missing links" are there.  The problem is that there will never be enough to satisfy someone who already has their mind made up. You will always insist on more transitional forms without ever fully grasping that all forms are transitional.

  2. The arguments they make might *seem* sensible, but they're not.

You can find the answers to almost any creationist argument here:

  3. Science proves that that word of God is truth every day. Evolution is still called a theory, and it will remain so. The thing is though, its easier to believe in evolution then God because it takes more time, effort, study, and so on to get how God is real and how science can prove it.

Quiting is to a life or death situation as evolution is to truth. The consequences are devastating when you take the easy way out.

  4. "Evolution" cannot be "proved."   There is not just one "missing link," there are missing links in every form of life that exists!  Think about it!  Evolutionists continue to harp on the "missing link" between apes and man as if it were the only one.

Evolution has been built from specious thinking as a result of egotistical humanism.  Some men try to create their own credibility by coming up with abstract theories without a shred of evidence.  Take that idiotic "refutation" of Behe's work, for example.  In response to his excellent presentation of the idiocy of evolution, professors all over have come up with a new theory which is totally against the original Darwinism (i.e., "create a new part in an organism, then make it necessary!").   If it wasn't so drastically dangerous and eternally fatal spiritually, it'd be ludicrous on it's very surface.

Think of the Bible as a legal document where the testimony of men with eyewitness experience has been recorded.  God is real.  Salvation is real.  h**l is real, too!

  5. Also consider that "Creation Science" has not brought anything to the table with regard to hypotheses, possible experiments, nor predicted any results. These are all hallmarks of good science. What creation science excels at is raising up straw-men and knocking them down. Moreover many of the criticisms put forth by creation science simply are not true.

Example: They claim there are no transition fossils (completely untrue).

    Spend some reading at talkorigins.org.

  6. Creationism vs. evolution is the lit matchstick vs. Hurricane Katrina.

Evolution has evidence. I've seen it in London's Natural History Museum. Creationism has no evidence. I choose to go for the evolutionary argument.

You'll be flamed for your question by some, but you're right to ask. It shows that you are thinking for yourself. Some of the athiests round here are as limited in their thinking as the evangelistic fundies. Keep reading. Evolution isn't the finished model quite yet; it's certainly the best. Be cautious with some of the Creationists because they are prepared to use deceit to challenge evolution.

A recent Creationist book listed 100 scientists debunking evolution. A little research left only 16 genuine scientists, the rest were made up or weren't scientists. Of those 16 none disputed evolution, they simply had questions. Don't we all!?

  7. Evolution is an established, empirical scientific fact. This means it has been proven. 'Theory' in scientific terms is not the same as 'theory' in every day terms - a scientific theory explains already verified facts.

Creationism is a myth. Michael Behe, the LEAD proponent of creationism, swore UNDER OATH in court that creationism wasn't science.

Evolution also says nothing on the origin of life - it is merely about how different species evolve over time to adapt to their surroundings. Creationists know nothing, and I mean nothing of basic science, let alone evolution.

  8. I believe in both.

Evolution is part of God's plan to ensure that His creatures are adapted to survive his ever changing and ever growing creations.

Science and God are NOT at odds.

  9. Until either can be undeniably proven, they are both religions. But if you look at evolution, all it does is deny that there is a creator. That we have a reason for being here. I'd like to believe my life has more purpose than to just live and die.

  10. First of all, did you know that reptiles never stop growing? It's just a simple biological fact that reptiles grow all their life. They never stop until the day they die. Did you know that? Most people don't.Reptiles never stop growing.

Now, back in the days of Adam and Eve up until the days of Noah, if you look at the geneologies you'll find that just about everyone lived about 900 years or more.Instead of dying at 80 or 90 like we do today, back then they died at 800 or 900. They lived about 10 times longer back then.

Now think about it. If people lived 10 times longer back then, well it wouldn't just be people would it? More than likely it would be plants, animals, the whole ecosystem. If people lived 10 times longer, so would lizards. If lizards lived 10 times longer, and reptiles never stop growing, then if they lived 10 times longer, then they would grow 10 times bigger.

So instead of having a 3 foot long iguana like we have today, back then you'd have a...

    30 foot long iguana!

One of the first dinosaurs ever found was called the iguanadon because of it's resemblance to the iguana. The man who found it said that it's skeleton looked just like the skeleton of the iguana except it was alot bigger. So he called it Iguanadon. Well, guess how big it was?

30 feet! Iguanadon dinosaurs range anywhere from 27 to 30 to 33 feet on average.

You see, according to the bible, reptiles and lizards would've gotten really really big back in the days of Noah

Secondly, Creation Scientists suspect that dinosaurs did not become extinct until about 3 or 4 thousand years ago. This would mean that dinosaurs went extinct sometime within the history and memory of mankind. Evolutionists claim extinction was complete some 60 or 70 million years ago, based upon radiometric dating methods. However, Creation Scientists have found these dating methods to be very questionable and innacurate. For instance, new rock in the form of hardened lava flows produced estimated ages as great as 3 billion to 10.5 billion years, when they were actually less than 200 years old. Does that sound like an accurate age estimate to you? According to Science Magazine in 1984, shells from living snails were carbondated as being 27,000 years old. Does that sound like an accurate dating method to you?

Thirdly, fossilization is a very rare and unusual occurance, not an every day event. Fossilization is not a slow gradual process that takes place over millions of years. According to the best available evidence, plants and animals cannot become fossils unless they are buried relatively quickly and deeply in the appropriate materials. Creation Scientists have found that the conditions that would be most ideal for the kind of massive fossil formations found in the sediments would be a violent, global flood catastrophe. Dinosaur remains worldwide are associated with water-laid sediment.

Well, guess what? The bible talks about a flood like that. And it just so happens that that flood occurred in the days when reptiles and lizards would have gotten really big.

So you see, when it comes to the fact that we are digging up gigantic reptiles and lizards up out of the ground, most of which are completely fossilized, does this somehow contradict the bible?

Well, According to the bible it makes perfect sense!

Dinosaur bones don't contradict the bible. They fit in just perfectly. The things that contradict the bible are the inaccurate "dating" methods. Well, if the Bible is truly accurate, then it SHOULD contradict our innacurate dating methods now shouldn't it?

  11. One of the big issues here is so many consider the answer either/or.   Either it was evolution or God created us.

There is the theory that God created the very mechanics of evolution, "helping it along" where there are inexplicable gaps in the current chain.

Given all of that, I believe a creature created by God (via whatever method) also gives a FAR more plausible support to  our ability to reason, make moral decisions or even think about ourselves.

I can understand evolution producing more useful appendages or a more upright walk, but cannot for a minute understand how it could produce self-awareness.   In my opinion, it takes a leap of logic to assume it happened by chance.

  12. As you very well know the theory on spontaneity of natural causes has failed to prove itself. Even now no organism can be presented to have come about through evolution, and so with the theory of origin whereby life existed from non life; the precondition prior to the beginning has been a riddle up to now that they can't move on with it.

However, I think that it's clear to everyone that the world has a preexisting condition. Some people call it an existing energy, or a primordial chaos. Whatever that is it has to be an infinite existence from back there; no arguments needed. Having known what science say about the nature of the universe, what do you presuppose is it, a thing or someone?

I read an article in the web regarding cause and effect as a law of causality, saying that every effect has an antecedent cause. Accordingly our world cannot exist without somebody causing it. I guess this article will be a great help to you as well, please check my source on the web below.

  13. after growing up thinking evolution was fact...and the only story to explain why we are here...then reading about the creation story...the creation story make much more sense to me...both views are faith to some extent...

  14. Evolution has an enormous amount of evidence supporting it.   It has effectively been proven as a fact.

We still don't know how every single feature in living things evolved, but that doesn't mean evolution is wrong.  We don't know how gravity works at extremely high energy densities, but that doesn't mean gravity is wrong.

  15. "on how the theory of evolution is full of flaws"

Kid, answersingenisis.com is a creatinist website and therefore filled with lies and MIS-information; it's a scam built on BS.

    Evolution has NO flaws.

Evolution is woven into the fabric of all modern medical knowledge.

You really need to do some research in evolution AND for that matter Creationism.

Creationism will be a very easy as it all hinges on ONE page of bible; you'll be able to memorise THAT theory within an hour.

Evolution on the other hand has MUCH more evidence to support it.
