Creative Cause heads the San Felipe Stakes with Bodemeister and Liaison next in line to win at Santa Anita
The hero of the Grade 1 Norfolk Stakes, Creative Cause, is considered to win the Grade 2, $300,000 San Felipe Stakes, run over a distance of 1 1/16 miles over the Santa Anita Park’s dirt course on 10 March, 2012, and the race has drawn a deep field of 10,
3-year-olds with 2 early scratches.
By the super sire, Giant’s Causeway, Creative Cause is out of mare Dream of Summer by Siberian Summer, and in his seasonal debut the Mike Harrington trained colt finished third in the seven furlong long sprint called the Grade 2 San Vicente Stakes at Santa
Anita’s dirt track.
The third place finisher in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile to Hansen last fall at Churchill Downs, Creative Cause is sent in the San Felipe Stakes with the odds of 11 to 4.
The fast developing Bob Baffert’s trainee, Bodemeister surprised everyone when sent at 7 to 2 as the second choice for the San Felipe Stakes. The Virginia bred son of Empire Maker, out of mare Untouched Talent by Storm Cat, will break from post number 2
coupled with jockey Rafael Bejarano.
The inexperienced colt broke his maiden as a sophomore this year at second asking over at a mile at Santa Anita Park’s dirt course, under Bejarano, as the pair topped the distance in 1 minute and 34.45 seconds, but other than that, Bodemeister, don’t have
much experience under his belt, and it will be his first stakes race against a well drilled graded stakes race company.
Bob Baffert’s another trainee, Liaison, will be the third choice for the San Felipe Stakes, mainly because of his uncharacteristic performance in his seasonal debut, when he finished an unplaced eighth in the Grade 2 Robert B. Lewis Stakes at about 1 1/16
miles.
The Real Quiet Stakes and the Grade 1 CashCall Futurity winner was 3 up in 4 starts last year. He will be breaking from post number six under jockey Rafael Bejarano.
The rest of the field contains Blingo, who will be breaking from gate number 1. Rousing Sermon gets post number eight with the odds of 8 to 1, and you never know with this horse as he can spur up a surprise any time anywhere, but he can be a worthy bet under
the circumstances.
