Creative Cause to finish on top of the pile in the Santa Anita Derby at Santa Anita
It is a cause for alarm for the other early Kentucky Derby favourites, who faltered in their respective Derby prep races last weekend, Creative Cause would be the only one who had inched closer to be the one to beat in the Kentucky Derby, and if only the
Mike Harrington trained three-year-old colt could establish himself as the one in the Grade 1, $750,000 Santa Anita Derby at Santa Anita Park on 7 April, 2012, at about 1 1/8 miles.
The Santa Anita Derby has reeled in 10 Kentucky Derby hopefuls, and with $700,000 in career earnings, Creative Cause is sent as the 6 to 5 favourite, who will break from the rail with jockey Joel Rosario in the irons.
Creative Cause has won twice over two turns, and there was one common element on both occasions that revealed itself that the colt can go further, and if he goes on to win the Santa Anita Derby on 7 April, than definitely Creative Cause will be the clear
favourite for the Run for the Roses.
Trainer Bob Baffert has done well in the Santa Anita Derby, winning it six times, has a strapping young colt by the name of Liaison to represent him this time. Though, Liaison has enough earnings to be eligible for the Kentucky Derby, but he hasn’t shown
enough promise in his sophomore year.
With an eighth place finish in the Grade 2 Robert B. Lewis Stakes, followed by a 4th place finish in the Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes his chances look a little bleak compare to Creative Cause.
Liaison will break as the 8 to 1 choice from post number 2 under jockey Rafael Bejarano. The 10 to 1 choice, Midnight Transfer will be moving up the class ladder, and after his third place finish in the Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes his chances look bright for
a placed finish on the day.
The surprise 43 to 1 winner of the Grade 2 Robert B. Lewis Stakes, the sharp, I’ll Have Another, and he has every chance to steal a big race once again, and shock his connections with another ultra sharp performance down the stretch, the way he roared home
in his last race.
Creative Cause should not have any problem in taking the race, but Midnight Transfer might surprise Liaison for a second place finish, with Liaison finishing third, while I’ll Have Another is a tricky one, but he has the power to out finish the rest in third.
