Creative Cause under Rafael Bejarano outclass and out finish his rivals in an impressive win in the Grade 2 Best Pal Stakes at Del Mar.
The Southern California’s top juvenile colt staked his claim in the Grade 2 $150,000 Best Pal Stakes at Del Mar on 7 August, 2011, after he galloped to a 1 ¾ lengths victory to remain perfect in two starts.
Heinz Steinmann’s Creative Cause made his second start in the Grade 2 Best Pal Stakes after an impressive victory in his maiden special weight run over at a distance of 5 furlongs.
On 16 July 2011, The Giant’s Causeway colt made his debut at Hollywood Park, where he took the lead midway through the race and sprinted past to win the 5 furlong dash by a massive margin of 4 ¾ lengths, making the distance in 56.90 seconds.
Under jockey Rafael Bejarano, the pair travelled the 6 ½ furlong Best Pal Stakes in an impressive 1 minute and 15.62 seconds, while flattening five other juvenile colts on the way.
Creative Cause with jockey Rafael Bejarano covered the distance in the fastest time for the Best Pal Stakes in the last five years.
The colt earned a Beyer Speed figure of 98 on the cushion track, and ridden again by jockey Rafael Bejarano manoeuvred masterfully between Galex on the inside and took over the pace setter I’ll Have Another and Brigand to edge out on the outside.
The 2-year-old chestnut colt, I’ll Have Another ridden by Joel Rosario set up a solid pace, who jumped to the lead after breaking from the inside post.
After the turn, I’ll Have Another started fading away from Brigand, who was ridden by jockey Garrett Gomez. Mike Harrington trained, Creative Cause, came off the rail and quickly made some serious strides to challenge three other opponents in the upper stretch.
Brigand on the other hand started showing signs of tiring, and Creative Cause took advantage of the slack approach, and under steady handling swept past him and took on I’ll Have Another, collared past him entering the mid stretch, finally got clear of competition
and ran off to an impressive victory.
