Creative Cause working well toward his 2012 return, in the Grade 2 Vicente Stakes
The Grade 1 winner in his juvenile season, and a third place finisher in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile to winner, Hansen, in the same season at Churchill Downs last fall, the newly turned 3-year-old colt, Creative Cause is yet to make his 2012 debut.
Trained by Mike Harrington for owner Heinz Steinmann, Creative Cause is expected to make his 2012 seasonal debut in the Grade 2 San Vicente Stakes at Santa Anita Park over the venue’s dirt track going at seven furlongs on 19 February, 2012, where he will
meet the Bob Baffert trained colt, Secret Circle, who is coming off a second place finish in the Grade 3 Sham Stakes.
The Kentucky bred son of Giant’s Causeway, out of mare Dream of Summer by Siberian Summer, Creative Cause at Hollywood Park on 12 February, 2012, drilled six furlongs in a bullet 1 minute and 11 3/5 seconds, as the early Triple Crown contender’s work was
recorded as the fastest among 17 others over the same distance at Hollywood Park’s cushion track.
“He worked very nice,” trainer Mike Harrington said. “He seems to be coming up to the race fine.”
The 3-year-old colt has been out of action since he finished third to Hansen in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at about 1 1/16 miles, and prior to that he won the Grade 1 Norfolk Stakes at Santa Anita’s dirt course on 1 October, 2011, at about 1 1/16
miles.
Defeating the likes of Drill in second and Ruler of Dubai in third, while covering the distance in 1 minute and 42.66 seconds.
Conditioner Mike Harrington is smartly working, Creative Cause for his return, as he took his colt out on 28 January, 2012, to turn in a bullet move of six furlongs in 1 minute and 11 3/5 seconds at Hollywood Park.
“It looks like he could be a little fresh coming off a layoff, but he’s a great horse and I love to ride him," said jockey Joel Rosario. "His Breeders’ Cup race was a good one. I was impressed with it. Maybe he’s the right horse for the Derby, who knows?”
