For my textiles project I have to make a product out of recycled materials. Because of this such wide choice range I cant choose what to make and what it should be made out of?

Can anybody give me any ideas? Tips? Themes? Etc.

This is my design brief:

the problem is to design and make a creative and imaginative textile product using recycled denim that could be worn at the Eco Festival fashion show or displayed on their stand.

The design must be

-made out of atleast 70% reclycled materials with denim being the main element of the design

-Be aesthetically pleasing, creative and imaginative

-Appeal to a target market aged between 18-25 years old

So what sort of thing do you think I could make?

Imaginative and creative suggestions please! The wilder the better!!

  1. try a purse or a cute change purse.  I saw a lady that makes cute clutches and purses out of recycled skateboards.  Maybe make a baby sling.  Baby stuff would be a great way to go.

  2. handbag or purse.  Unlike clothing it does not have to be the correct size for a model.

or a shopping bag.  you could think of a slogan and a logo.  how about "Ecobags - fabric with experience"  The double-whammy is that people who use it are saving the pollution of disposable plastic bags as well as re-using material.

    have fun

  3. What about denim thigh high faux leather boots. You could use loads of zips and chains as decoration. Start off by using a really high heel shoes as the base and fasten with a long zip up the back. You could make  faux leather mini skirt and crop halter top in denim with zips and chains to go with them a real Goth outfit.

  4. You know those really short jackets with long sleeve that you see girls wearing? What if you took a pair of jeans and opened the inseam all the way past the zipper (leave the rear together) them use the legs as arms -leave them kinda long so your fingers show only about 2 inches. The back of the jacket would be the rear of the pants and the front would fasten with one button at the bottom just below the breast. The collar would have to trimmed somehow and details worked out but...

  5. i go with, cutting up denim jeans and making them into a skirt, in patches, use the top bit as the top bit for your skirt then cut up several pairs of legs for the bottom bit, it can be uneven and rough edged.  Use a leg and make a matching shoulder bag. And another leg to make a hat.

  6. Have you ever been to the Website Inhabitat.com?

It might give you some brainstorming ideas.

The fact that it has to be mainly denim is tricky though. I mean, so often when you use denim... it comes out looking... back woodsy?

Oh! Sudden idea. If you cut strips of denim, and then sewed them into a dress, you could fray the edges of the strips enough that it would be all fluffy and white instead of flat and blue. Might look really neat.

  7. dye it black and sew strips into a dress all in a rectange veritcally and accompant it witha dyed red demin belt.
