Creative Inspire T7700 - Problem?

Question

I recently bought a new Dell PC with a 7.1 surround sound soundcard. I decided to also buy this Creative 7.1 surround sound system.

I have got it all set up, and when I run the sound demo on every individual speaker, they each sound on their own, however when playing games, listening to songs or watching movies, only the subwoofer and two front speakers make a sound.

Please can someone advise? Should I buy a creative sound card too?

I have the same setup. I never did work it out as the plugs are different colours than the sockets i have on the back of my computer and never managed to get the 7.1 sound. I managed through trial and error to get 5.1 but i gave up! Sorry this is not much help but as you bought the package from Dell they should assist you over the phone. Good luck.
