Creative favor container?

I am throwing my sister a candy themed graduation party and surprise surprise, we are having a candy bar, lol. I am trying to come up with creative inexpensive containers that the guests can put their candy in. I have already considered take out boxes and just using bags but I was hoping for something a little more unique. I considered paint cans but the smaller ones don't have handles - if I ended up using them would that matter? Any suggestions appreciated! Thank you!

  1. Supplies that you would need:

    1. Zip lock bags. (comes in various sizes).

    2. A few bottles of different colors of Puffy Paints

or you could use colored markers.

Let your guests decorate their own bags with their name, simple drawings, etc.. You could even then turn it into a contest to see who makes the best (cutest, prettiest, funniest, etc.) bag for a prize.

  2. Cruise through your local dollar store (Dollar Tree is good) .... but how about sand pails?   big plastic coffee mugs or plastic margarita glasses (you can put clear cellophane over them, and tie at the top) ....

  3. WHat about terra cotta flower pots?  They come in various sizes and are pretty cheap.  Try Hobby Lobby or even al-Mart garden center.  You can tie a ribbon around it to decorate them.

  4. How about the colorful travel mugs they sell at dollar stores like dollar tree?  That way there is a lid and handle so they can grab them and take them home without spilling them.  Also how about dollar store beach pails with the little plastic shovels, then they can scoop their candies into the pail!

  5. how about chineese take out containers??

  6. What about going to the dollar store and just get colored bags, like the gift bags you give presents in, they look like shopping bags, but smaller?  You can get ones that are solid colors, get them in different colors, like pinks, blues, yellows, greens, etc.  They have handles and you can even decorate them with each girl's name on them and then they'll be no mix up on who's bag is who's at the end of the party.  It's easy for them to carry, and it won't cost you much.

You can get small pails, like the ones for the beach, sand buckets, they have handles and they have shovels, they can use the shovels to take the candy and shovel it into their container!  You can check the dollar store or toy stores for smaller ones.  I would definitely get something with a handle to make it easier on them to walk around with.   You can also get paint pens and put their name on it so they know who's is who's.

I know the Pottery Barn website has small metal pails that are either red, blue, or white, and they are adorable and the perfect size for what you're looking for, and they have handles and are metal and painted.  They are very cute and the white ones are great, but I like they're a few dollars, each, not sure how many girls there are.  If it's just a few girls, it wouldn't be a bad thing.  If it's a lot, it's going to be too much, but you can go there and check them out to see the size.  They're small and metal.

You can check out toy stores, they have small beach pails and thing that you can find for them to carry their candy in.

If you go to Home Depot, or Lowes, the smaller paint cans, with no labels should have handles.  Then you can make labels on your computer saying it's your sister's graduation party, the year, that it's a candy party and then the girl's name on who's pail it is.  The smaller ones should have the handles, I would check the bigger warehouse places and see what they have.

You can also go to a craft store and they have plain white shopping bags, the paper ones like the ones I mentioned earlier at the dollar store.  They sell them in plain white and you can make computer labels for them and put some stickers on them and mention who's bag it is. Jolee's boutique is a sticker line and Michael's right now is having a HUGE sale on them and they make awesome stickers and even GREAT 3-D candy stickers you can buy and decorate the bags with.  You can go to Michael's, buy the white bags, however many you need, in whatever size, and then get the stickers and decorate the bags for the girls to carry around the party and fill with candy.

If you find that you want to use the paint cans and they don't have handles, can you add them?  Can you string some rope through them or some craft wire and then on then add beads to the wire?  Just remember the girls will be holding them so you don't want to make it too uncomfortable for them to hold.

I hope some of these ideas help!

  7. Take ice cream cones and dip the top with chocolate. Chill in fridge.
