My brother who is 8 years old has severe autism. He attends an afterschool program called SNACK. It caters to special needs kids like him. It is a second home for him, and my family and i are looking to do some sort of fundraiser for it. They are a non-profit organization and they need $. I came up with the idea of a goal-a-thon where every time a kid scores a goal they are sponsered by others. I feel that that might be too unoriginal and i want a creative idea that the kids can participate in and that will bring in some $ for the organization. All ideas are appreciated! Thanks!

  1. Raffles are great. Local area businesses are usually willing to donate certificates or promotioanl merchandise to raffle fundraisers.

I don't think it needs to be an original or a truly creative fundraiser, sometimes going with what works is the best way to raise money. What if you come up with a new idea and it doesn't go over good.

  2. What about a bake sale? It would go well with the name of the program and it would give the teachers an opportunity to teach some life skills, like using money and cooking and caring for the baked goods. Even the most severe students could participate by putting snacks into plastic bags or pouring ingredients. You could sell very simple snacks like trail mix or nobake cookies to make it simpler for students to participate in creating.

Another idea would be a recycling campaign. Have students bring in materials from home (plastic bottles, aluminum cans, newspapers, etc.) and take them to your local recycling center. Many centers pay for items, especially aluminum cans. And it's a way for students to get involved in helping the environment.

Another inexpensive ways for schools and programs is through Box Tops for Education. www.boxtops4education.com. We use this at the school that I teach and make a good amount of money from it. It's sponsored by General Mills, a reliable company. Kids could again use materials they already have in their pantries at home.

What a great goal you have! Good luck!
