before i get into it please note i'm not the sales type so no mary kay, pampered chef, ... kuddos to those who do but it's not me.

i'm a stay at home mom (sahm) looking to make a little money. nothing major. part time employment where i can take my kids or something creative i can do from home. i don't believe in getting something for nothing... little work deserves little pay. i am completely willing to do work.

that said i love crafty things and wierdly enough laundry. i don't know what i could do on the crafty side of things. suggestions? and as old school as it sounds i was thinking about starting a laundry service. too weird? i wouldn't begin to know how to advertise or what to charge.

random ramblings of a crazy sahm. ideas for work? let me know. thanks.

  1. www.angelpins.net  check it out, I am trying this out as we speak..I am still new to it so I don't know how well it would work but it's worth a try.

  2. Make gift baskets for different ocassions (birthdays, holidays, wedding showers, new babies, christenings, etc.) and sell them on e-bay and at craft fairs.

  3. there is a place near me that is a laundry service and they charge like $0.75 a pound and they wash, fold and wrap in paper( the folded stacks)

you could run a play group ( mommy day out ) a few afternoons a week for a few hours a day

before and after school sitting.. that is the hardest to find is someone willing to get the kid on and off the bus every day.

  4. I’ve always had a hard time finding legitimate work that’s not a sales pitch and quite honestly, that’s why I had to go back to work. I stayed home on maternity leave for almost 4 months and I was getting my paycheck from my full time job that whole time, but I wanted to stay home with my son. I looked into EVERYTHING. Craigslist, part time, work from home, marykay, pampered chef, some fake “do from home” stuff. It was all c**p. I’m not the pushy sales type so Marykay and Pampered Chef and Discovery Toys (?) never worked for me. It was so frustrated too!

So I’m back to working full time. It sucks. But nothing else was stable enough or legitimate enough for me to give up a regular paycheck. Because we DO rely on two incomes to keep a roof over our heads and well, it just didn’t work out.

If you find anything that’s legitimate, please pass it along. Good luck!!

  5. I know your not interested in Direct sales but I had to comment on your "I'm not the sales type"  comment Do you know how many successful Directors and Nationals in mary Kay said the same thing including myself so if it is not something that interest you I respect that I just say from personal experience don't cut your self short of facts before deciding.  I was absolutely not interested in sales but loved the product and as women we easily share things we love with other people so if you love crafts there are several direct sales stamp in up, creative memories etc.

  6. I don't know about laundry service - I send my hubby's shirts out for laundry and they pick up/deliver ironed on hangers for about $1.75 per shirt.  That would be a tough deal to beat.

As far as crafts - I'd like to find a service who would prepare 'party packages'.   I wonder if you could advertise yourself as a party planner and either prepare craft kits for parents to pick up and use at their kids' bd parties.  You'd be responsible for all the items being in each kit along with simple instructions.

Or you could hire yourself out on weekends to kids' bd parties as the 'craft lady' and bring the materials and spend the time to lead the kids in a craft project.   Of course you'd have to include set up and clean up.  But I would pay for that type of service.

    Good luck!

  7. Here is an article I wrote, it might help.

  8. Child care!  I am a stay at home mom and my husband is a PhD student here with little time to spare for work.  I have 3 children, ages 7, 5, and 6 months and I can't bear the thought of having to leave them everyday.  Now, while you might not be the sole "bread winner" in the family, it is a great way to bring in some extra money.  You have to have the patience for it, but it is a very rewarding job.  Look to your city web sites about getting licensed as a child care provider.  Once licensed, there are all sorts of government funded programs where you can get money to buy supplies, toys etc.  Also, there are federally funded programs where you will get reimbursement for each child that you feed.  FYI, I make around $5500 monthly, take home.  I make my own hours, take days off when I need, and make sure people know that I also have children and should something come up with them, they are my first priority.  It is perfect for me since I get to make money, and have the pleasure of watching my kids grow up.  If you have any questions, let me know, I am happy to help!

  9. I think what you need in order to have enough time to work is get your child something that will distract him/her for a long time and what better than toys, which at the same time are educational there is this one site that has a whole bunch of toys and stuff for kids here is a link.
