Creative marriage proposal?

I am a young lady very much in love. My boyfriend and I have been together for a while now, and I think I'm almost ready to ask him to marry me.

Because I'm aware that this is not the "norm" for the woman to be asking the man to be her husband, I want it to be a very creative, romantic proposal. Can anyone provide any ideas to make it great? Also, is there something other than a ring that I can give to him as a proposal gift?
