I have a few nice coffee tables that had glass inlays but the glass has gotten broken. Does anyone have any creative alternatives that I can use in place of the glass?

  1. plexiglass

    plastic

    ice

  2. You can get some plywood or mdf, cut it to size and faux finish it anything you want, like a piece of marble.  or just paint it and seal it, you could do a glossy finish and totally change the look of the table.  you could try to find some replacement glass, maybe this time with some etching or frosted sections or texture of some kind.  oh, once on tv I saw them lay sand in the coffee table, there was some sort of box that was set in the hole then covered with glass.  you could decoupage a collage onto a surface like mdf.  you could do mosaic tile and grout it in any design you can imagine.  the possibilities are endless!

  3. I saw on HGTV once where they put a piece of plywood in the table where the glass would have gone, and then installed little ceramic tiles on top of it. I've also seen it done with broken pottery/glass, glass tiles, etc.

  4. Replace it with ceramic tiles. You will need 3/8 - 1/2 " plywood underneath it though.

Make a mosaic of wood, broken tiles, broken colored glass, or small trinkets. Fill and cover it with a layer of epoxy.

Use a nail puch to pound a design into a sheet of copper or stainless steel.

  5. Colorful ceramic tiles.

  6. Not terribly creative, but what about plexi-glass, maintain the look and keep it less fragile.  Failing that, colorful stones?  Laminated Pictures for a personal touch?  Memorabilia?

  7. plexiglass but use the stuff that makes artificial stain glass, paint (hobby lobby) it looks real and affordable.

  8. You could always use assorted slats of wood. Use pine, cherry, oak, walnut, or whatever you like and glue them together to place in the area where you need them. You could either stain them or just polyurethane them to show the beauty of the wood. Whatever you do I hope it turns out to be very beautiful.
