I am looking at this dresser because my girls trashed theirs by standing on the open drawers.. if I get this one (it is the perfect size and very cheap) can you see a way to transform it to a girls dresser? Do you suppose those pulls can be removed? Thanks.. I have put this in another section but I also wanted opinions from fellow moms..

  1. For $35 (and, you might be able to offer them $30), I don't think I'd be too worried about keeping it in a resellable condition.  What I'd probably do is let the kids make it all theirs.

First, get some magazines & find pictures of things that my kids liked - in the case of my kids, that would be lots of pokemon, but your girls might like princesses, ponies, butterflies, flowers, puppies, whatever.  And, maybe I'd buy some ribbons or lace for trim.

Then, cut out the pics, right along the edge, not keeping any background on it.

Then, use Mod Podge ( http://www.plaidonline.com/apmp.asp ) to apply the pictures & trim wherever you want them, all over the drawers, countertop, sides, etc.  Let the kids help.  Get sticky, have fun!

Then, after it all dries, cover it with another coat of Mod Podge to seal.

Finally, put it in a place of pride in the girls' room!

  2. If u can change the handles to gold hearts or crowns, add a few heart stickers on the side, a nice pink cotton cover for the top. If u cant change the handles add girly colour tassles for a better effect.

  3. I would be a lot of work, but you could remove the hardware, sand down the current finish and repaint it to whichever colour you want.  That finish looks pretty thick, you might even need to use a furniture stripper on it?

  4. I would say go with something else. IF you can fix it up, its going to be A LOT of work and stripper, paint, and stain are pretty expensive. Also, those drawers are going to be heavy and if you have very young girls they could pull the drawers out and hurt themselves.

Why not try to find something like this:

  5. The pulls will be removavble....but the dresser is pretty detailed and also varnished...it might be a biggish job but you'll be best off removing the pulls and then sanding it all down...and then painting it cream...and replacing the pulls with some smaller ones....maybe china ones would look nice....if you could manage all that it would look very nice and feminine...I think it's lovely...I like the antique style for girls....
