Creative ways to fix the cap/protector of a metal chair leg?

the chair legs used to have some hard rubber cap/protector to prevent scratching the floor, it came off and got lost, and now it's uneven and scratchy. the leg is of some metal construct and hollow, *and* is irregularly shaped square. so i can't buy any ready-made felt protector thingy, and because it's hollow so I can't really glue to the hollow metal frame?? So what choices do I have? thanks!

  1. Duct tape.  Perfect for everything.

  2. Home Depot and Lowes have a large selection of them.

  3. How about putting wood inserts up the tube leg, then glue felt or leather to the wooden plug?
