what age of kids are you talking about?

I'm twenty years old now and have forgotten nearly every art, music and dance class I've ever taken before I entered college...but one thing that stuck with me was the "imagination station" that my 3rd grade homeroom teacher came up with. She would pull out a bunch of arts and crafts supplies, papers and pencils, instruments, everything. She would hand out a list of starter ideas, although we were encouraged to make our own, and basically create anything we could think of. We invented and designed our own board games, built picture frames out of crazy things, wrote poems and plays, made up "vocabulary vocals" (songs) to help us study our spelling words.

The best part was the beautiful, beautiful freedom. We were not forced to work alone or in groups. We were encouraged but not demanded to present anything in front of the class. Most importantly, nothing was graded...just praised. It was like an hour of just unleashing your imagination and letting it run absolutely wild. We did anything that took something boring and dull and livened it up with color, personalization, and I remember it all so well, because nothing can be better than the ability to simply call something your own.

Creativity cuts across the curriculum. Creativity is innovative thinking or expression. Creativity can serve us well anywhere.

Actually being calm and low energy is more likely to lead into creativity than frantic activity.
