I have a Visual design major assessment. I have to make something that is functional (that's the difficult part) using my art skills. We have to prove that we have done 10 weeks of work on this assessment.

Can anyone provide me with any ideas. I can't make soemthing large out of clay because of the kilm at school.

Any suggestions appreciated.

  1. Make a shelter?

  2. Two often used and simply designed functional pieces are tables and chairs, from sidetables to dining tables, simple stools to elaborate chairs or sculptural pieces.

I wonder if your final item has to be fully functional or can be a representation of? Possibly you could think of making something from cardboard or wood and explain that it would be cast into plastic for example? Or make a scaled down version of your idea in clay that will fit into your kiln, and make a small report to go with this maquette detailing the materials and actual size you would produce the piece in if you had the facilities.

  3. Well, you could make a small house, or a sheltor or a picnic table

  4. make a big fat pig sitting up out of clay have him holding the globe
