Question:

Credible Websites for Paranormal Activity?

I've had a few strange experiences in my old home. To my dismay whenever I go on the internet to do some research I seem to stumble only upon quack websites and fake "proof" of the paranormal.

Do reputable websites exsist regarding investigation of the paranormal? I am interested in learning more, however, I don't want to be misled with silly television shows and crazy people with the power of domain!! :)

  1. Actually www.CSICOP.org is a great one. Any of Joe Nickell's articles are really helpful in understanding possible explanations for what is perceived as paranormal activity. Joe is very open minded and a really really nice guy. He isn't a 'debunker', he actually goes into a case wanting to know what is going on. He is actually open to the idea that something paranormal might be happening. In his experience it hasn't yet, but he is open to the idea.

Another great parapsychologist is Richard Wiseman. He hasn't found any evidence of the paranormal yet, but he approaches the subject like a good scientist. Every claim should be examined on its own merits and judged with an open mind. His website is www.richardwiseman.com.

  2. Any site that says it has proof of the paranormal is most likely a sham - if it could be prooven, it wouldn't be PARAnormal.

There is a way to know for yourself however. Look for sites that deal in the theorycraft of metaphysics as opposed to "prooven ghosts" and "evidence to convince anyone". Anyone who does not:

    A) Awknowledge that 99.9% could be explained by mundane answers (and that those answers are probably accurate)

    B) Awknowledge that, as yet, all we can deal with is conjecture, experience, and guess-work

...is most likely less than reputable. Think of it like medicine. A doctor doesn't tell you what you have, they give you a diagnosis. A diagnosis, by defination is... "a determining or analysis of the cause or nature of a problem or situation."

It doesn't mean the doctor KNOWS what is going on inside you, but the doctor looks at the symptoms and makes the most educated deduction that they can (and since it is built on ages of medical study, it is usually very accurate). But even in a concrete field like medicine, you can never truly KNOW until it's cured or solved.

The very term diagnosis is from the root:

    Dia - to determine

Gnosis: intuitive knowledge of spiritual truths; knowledge of spiritual matters; mystical knowledge.

In short, the very term means that it is an attempt to understand something that is not readily apparant.

So, in short, any site that offers anything more concrete than a diagnosis of the paranormal is most likely taking too much in the way of presumption of fact.

  3. He doesn't come to this section anymore..and I hope this isn't "advertising"...but here's a pretty good website. I like his ghost stories.http://www.theprosonline.com/

  4. If you wish to examine the scientific supporting evidence (versus people offering proof and skeptics offerings their beliefs as facts) I suggest the web sites below.

    Psi

  5. It is very difficult to find any credible websites, as most are just entertainment sites, the typical questionable "ghost photos", etc. no evidence, etc

However, there are some sites that will point out some alternative explanations for paranormal, etc

    Included are:

One that critiques the TAPS "evidence".

Another for the Skeptical Inquirer, which has some interesting articles.

James Randi Website and forum.  The forum for this site is very good, and you can post to it, and get some logical explanations as to why things happen, etc.

And the Skeptic Report has a lot of good articles also.  These should get you started, and you can post on the forums of some to find more info sources.

If you just want an entertaining site, with so called "ghost photos, etc.  you can go to the last site.  It is really funny and for entertainment only.  Not scientific.

  6. try Haunt Analysis of Ga.  The site owner will be very happy to assist you with any questions you may have.
