Question:

Credit Card Co. scam or of real benefit to me?

My credit card Co. has sent me a new card under the guise of "data compromise at a merchant where I have used [the card.]" They won't tell me the merchant- which pisses me off. The only thing that has changed is the expiration date. Why should I bother changing- which means all my recurring monthly accts must be contacted. Is this something just so they can say they have x # of cards expiring in 2011 instead of 2010? Should I activate new card?

  1. I cannot think of any financial benefit to the card company in your situation.  It is entirely possible that an employee at a merchant stole your credit card information and has sold it to other individuals.  I would activate the new card, shred the old card, and contact companies that take automatic payments from your card.

    Good Luck!
